Operation Library Trip

Library Trip Term 3 2010

Wednesday 18th August

Last Wednesday Room 13 and Room 11 went to the Hutt War Memorial Library to have a look and learn about the Dewey Decimal System.
We found out that the Dewey Decimal System is a way to organize books throughout libraries around the world.
The Dewey Decimal System was named after Melvil Dewey in 1876.
The system works sort of like a supermarket in which it orders books into different groups of numbers in certain areas.
We played a fun game of bingo, which involved the Dewey decimal system.
After this we went for a walk around the library locating the different areas and the types of books we would find.
We had time at the end to search for space books for our up and coming topic and were able to get them out on our library cards.

“I can’t believe that there are so many different kinds of books in each section of the system.” Emily

“I like the Dewey Decimal System because it is way easier to find books.” Paolo

“Now I understand how the Dewey Decimal System works.” William S

“Now I can find all of my favorite books like the Guinness book of records.” Molly

Topic Sentences

Ok Room 13,

It is now your chance to tell me what makes a fantastic topic sentence when we write reports.

What specific words could we use to gain the audiences attention if we are writing about DINOSAURS?

Best answer with an example will win some lovely chocolate!

Remember to write your name at the end so I know who is writing the amazing piece.

Good Luck

Mr Riley

Dinosaur Dance

As we move further into our dinosaur project, the children are starting to organise and label dinosaurs into groups through different features. The enthusiasm levels are high and we are almost ready to post some of our reports on DINOSAURS.
Stay tuned!

Fractions

Here is a video to help you remember fractions!

Can you tell me what 2/3 of 27 is?

Dinosaur Differences

We are learning the difference between Carnivores and Herbivores.

We know that most Carnivores have 3 sharp toes and are mostly lizard hipped.

Herbivores on the other hand have round feet, are bird hipped and they eat plants.

What are some other differences that these dinosaurs have?
